Evolution Design completes new learning zones on the FHNW Campus Brugg-Windisch

A pilot project that demonstrates the future of learning through interaction, collaboration, and dynamic use of space.

We are pleased to share a very special project: The new teaching and learning zones on the Brugg-Windisch campus of the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (Fachhochschule Nordwestschweiz, FHNW).

Developed as part of Raum 2035 – an FHNW-wide strategy defining the future of learning and working environments – this pilot project introduces a series of innovative spatial modules designed to support teaching, learning, collaboration, and focused work.

Within the existing open learning areas, we created four new zones that enable contemporary ways of studying and working:

  • Co-working areas – for individual and collaborative learning as well as shared work during and outside of classes, with a focus on coaching, exchange, and support
  • Lounge – for relaxed interaction, short breaks, or spontaneous conversations
  • Forum – for teaching, presentations, knowledge exchange, and networking
  • Focus zone – for concentrated, individual learning without conversations or phone calls

These open and inviting areas offer a wide range of opportunities for students and lecturers – from collaborative learning to independent and concentrated work, teaching, and informal exchange – making on-site presence a genuine added value.

Aesthetically, each module has been given a strong and distinctive identity – bringing joy and energy to the spaces while remaining in dialogue with the existing architecture.

The first months following the opening of the project have clearly demonstrated that the new pilot modules respond precisely to the needs of students. The spaces are highly active, intensively used, and contribute to a high-quality teaching and learning environment.
