New reception design for FHNW Campus Brugg-Windisch
Evolution Design reimagines the campus arrival experience.
As part of a comprehensive project introducing new learning environments on the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW) campus Brugg-Windisch, Evolution Design was also asked to redesign the main reception area.
This transformation turns the reception area into a clearly recognisable, vibrant, and inviting space – one that signals arrival, supports orientation, and enhances the overall spatial experience for students, staff, and visitors.
Redesign to enhance arrival and orientation
By extending the floor finishes into the open area, the reception zone now reaches beyond the sliding doors. This expanded space has been developed into a welcoming waiting area, with comfortable seating and integrated planting that defines the zone and establishes it as a distinct destination within the building.
Behind the glazed wall, the reception area itself accommodates a central reception desk on one side and IT support desks on the other. Newly designed, custom-built desks, integrated wall graphics, and the application of FHNW’s corporate colours create a clear visual identity and strengthen the university’s presence within the space.
The new layout improves orientation, making it immediately clear where to go for general enquiries or IT support.
To enhance workplace quality for reception staff, a green layer of planting lines the glazed partition, creating privacy while maintaining visual openness. Custom wall graphics introduce colour and energy, transforming an otherwise neutral workspace into a more engaging environment.
